About me
Chandru Iyer has been appointed as Deputy High Commissioner to Karnataka and Kerala from October 2022. In addition, he is also His Majesty’s Deputy Trade Commissioner for South Asia – Investment with a mandate to further strengthening and promoting the UK as a preferred destination for foreign direct investment from India and the wider region.
In his role as the DHC, he is responsible for all aspects of the UK’s engagement in the two South Indian states. As the Deputy High Commissioner, his role includes promoting business and trade links, strengthening scientific, technological and education cooperation and working with partners to tackle climate change and ensure a transition to clean and sustainable growth.
Chandru previously worked with Grant Thornton in the UK, one of the leading global professional services firms, as Head of Business Development for their South Asia Group. In this role he had responsibility for driving the firm’s strategic business growth plans for the South Asia-UK corridor, with a particular focus on India. He is an international business development specialist with extensive experience of having worked on international trade and investment transactions between India, Scandinavia, Australia and the UK for more than 20 years.
He studied Electronics Engineering and post graduated with MBA in International business before being headhunted over to the UK. Chandru is married and has a son getting ready for University life soon. An avid cricket fan, he has a flair for cooking and travelling, something which will hold him in good stead on the India UK corridor.
