About me
Prof. Stephen Wallace is currently Chair of Chemical Biotechnology at the University of Edinburgh in the UK. He has a Master's degree in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh, a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Oxford and has held prestigious international research fellowships at the University of Cambridge, Harvard University and MIT. He received the 2023 international Colworth Medal from the Biochemical Society and the Norman Heatley Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry for his pioneering research into the engineering of bacteria and other microorganisms for sustainable chemistry and as a future technology for green industrial processes. He is a frequent contributor to BBC Radio and TV discussions on fossil fuel use in the chemical industry and emerging sustainable biotechnologies and has delivered a TED talk showcasing how synthetic biology can help us build a sustainable future (26,000 views on YouTube).
